English Language Learners are a truly special group of students.  They are usually very hard working, motivated, and polite; however, they don't yet know English.  Many are top students in their own language, but must start from the bottom again in English. 
I am lucky enough to have lived all over the world and to have been in the same situtation (learning French when there was no French as a Second Language teacher/program when I lived in Paris) as these students are now.  This is probably why I love my job so much.  I started the ESL program in Knox County in August of 1981,  and have taught in all of the "county" schools and many of the former city schools. I am so happy to be at only two schools this year - Farragut Middle and Intermediate.
